Overview

Project Overview

Holona is a cross-platform pet care app — owners & providers can use it seamlessly on both desktop and mobile. It supports pet services, adoption, lost & found, community, and emergencies — all in one place.

It functions as a two-sided marketplace with three distinct user roles:

🐶 Pet Owners

  • Create and manage pet profiles (species, breed, health records, preferences).
  • Browse and book services such as veterinary consultations, grooming, walking, training, and boarding.
  • Access adoption and lost & found features to either adopt responsibly or reunite missing pets.
  • Stay connected through the community module (forums, groups, chats).
  • Track upcoming and past bookings, receive notifications, and manage payments seamlessly.

🏥 Service Providers

  • Accept or reject service requests from pet owners.
  • Manage schedules, availability, and client interactions on the go or from a desktop dashboard.
  • Track earnings, invoices, and service history with full financial transparency.
  • Participate in the community to share expertise and connect with pet owners.
  • Maintain service quality through reviews, transparent feedback, and performance tracking.

✨ By integrating mobile and desktop workflows, Holona creates a seamless ecosystem where:

  • Owners can confidently care for, adopt, and protect their pets.
  • Providers can scale their services and manage clients effectively.
  • Communities thrive as adoption and lost-pet reunions bring people together.
The Problem

The Problem

The pet care experience was fragmented and unreliable across multiple areas:

For Pet Owners

For Service Providers

These gaps left both owners and providers struggling, while adoption and lost-pet issues went largely unsupported in digital platforms.

The Goal

Holona set out to build a unified cross-platform ecosystem for pet care, adoption, and community engagement.

For Pet Owners

For Service Providers

✨ In short, Holona’s goal was to create a comprehensive, trustworthy, and community-driven pet platform — one that handles services, adoption, lost & found, and social engagement, all in one place.

Holona Outcomes
Process

Process & Key UX Decisions

Onboarding & Pet Profiles
  • Guided onboarding flow to create detailed pet profiles (species, breed, medical history, vaccination records).

Decision: Pet profiles became the core entity of the app, linking services, bookings, adoption, and lost-pet reports together.

Service Discovery & Booking
  • Categories for services: Vet, Grooming, Walking, Training, Boarding.
  • Step-by-step booking → Select service → Choose provider → Confirm → Pay.

Decision: Kept the flow linear and minimal to reduce drop-offs and ensure trust in booking services.

Adoption & Lost & Found
  • Adoption: Browse verified listings, use filters, submit adoption requests, and chat with current owners or shelters.
  • Lost & Found: Report lost pets with photos and location, receive real-time match alerts, and manage found/lost status directly from pet profiles.

Decision: Extended Holona’s scope beyond services to foster community impact — enabling responsible adoption and reuniting families with lost pets.

Community Interaction
  • Join topic-based forums & groups (e.g., training, health, adoption stories, coping with loss).
  • Open and private groups with request-to-join flows.
  • In-app chat & discussions for knowledge sharing and social engagement.

Decision: Positioned Holona as not just a service marketplace but a social hub for pet parents and providers.

Emergency Support
  • Dedicated section for ambulance services, poison control, vets, first-aid experts, and transport.
  • Providers can onboard themselves to be listed in emergencies.

Decision: Made Holona life-critical by ensuring owners could access verified help quickly during emergencies.

Payments & Notifications
  • Integrated secure payment options (cards, UPI, wallets).
  • Clear success/failure states with follow-up actions.
  • Push-style notifications for confirmations, reminders, cancellations.

Decision: Transparency at every transaction stage builds trust.

Booking History
  • Timeline-style view: Ongoing, Completed, and Canceled bookings.
  • Linked directly with pet profiles for context.

Decision: Presented history like a timeline for clear visibility into a pet’s journey.

Impact

Impact & Learnings

Impact
  • Created a cross-platform pet ecosystem accessible on both mobile and desktop, ensuring seamless use for both owners and providers.
  • Positioned Holona as more than a service marketplace by integrating pet adoption, lost & found, and community features, giving it a strong social impact.
  • Simplified service discovery and booking, making it easy for owners to access reliable providers.
  • Empowered service providers with tools for scheduling, client management, and earnings tracking, helping them scale digitally.
  • Introduced emergency support workflows, providing pet owners with verified, life-saving contacts during critical situations.
  • Built a strong community layer (forums, chats, groups) to keep users engaged beyond transactions.
Learnings
  • Designing for two user types (owners & providers) across two platforms (mobile & desktop) taught me how to maintain consistency while optimizing for different contexts.
  • The adoption and lost & found features reinforced the importance of designing for emotional as well as functional needs — these flows carried high sentimental value for users.
  • Adding community and emergency support showed how digital platforms can go beyond commerce to create real-world impact.
  • Personally, this project strengthened my skills in designing ecosystems — not just single apps — where multiple roles, flows, and needs coexist seamlessly.
