Project Overview

Loveworld Book Reader is a faith-based digital reading platform designed to simplify access to Christian content across formats — ebooks, audiobooks, and videos. The app functions as a Christian bookstore + personal library + media player.

The Problem

The Problem

Faith-based readers often face a fragmented digital experience. Ebooks, audiobooks, and videos are spread across multiple platforms, making it inconvenient for users to discover, purchase, and consume Christian content in one place.

For global audiences, particularly in regions with limited internet access, the lack of reliable offline reading/listening options becomes a barrier to engagement. Many existing apps are either too generic (not focused on Christian literature) or too narrow (supporting only one format like ebooks), leaving users dissatisfied.

Additionally, publishers needed a platform that not only provided a storefront for sales but also created a personalized library experience, encouraging users to return, explore, and stay connected with the Word.

The Goal

The Loveworld Book Reader app set out to:

Process

Process & Key UX Decisions

Designing the Loveworld Book Reader required balancing three key areas: content discovery, seamless purchase flow, and distraction-free consumption. Below are the major UX decisions that shaped the product:

Onboarding & Authentication
  • Introduced OTP-based verification during sign-up to ensure trust and security.
  • Provided social login options for faster onboarding.
  • Designed a password reset journey with clear step-by-step screens to reduce drop-offs.

Why: A faith-based app attracts a global audience; ensuring both ease of access and security was essential.

Store & Discovery
  • Curated categories such as Christian Living, Prayer & Prophecy, Children’s Books for intuitive browsing.
  • Designed featured banners, combos, and promotions at the top to drive engagement.
  • Integrated search + filters (by type: ebook, audiobook, video) to simplify discovery.

Why: Facilitates easy content exploration, helping users navigate huge catalog titles efficiently.

Cart & Checkout
  • Introduced coupon code options (e.g., WELCOME20, BOOKLOVER) to encourage first-time and repeat purchases.
  • Streamlined checkout with clear totals, applied discounts, and purchase confirmation.
  • Designed “Go to Library” CTA after successful purchase for immediate continuity.

Why: A frictionless checkout process reduces abandonment and keeps users focused on content, not transactions.

Library Organization
  • Segmented into Recently Added, Purchased, Downloaded Books, and Videos.
  • Clear offline states: Not Downloaded → Downloading → Available Offline.
  • Added content-type badges (Read / Listen / Watch) for clarity.

Why: Users expect order and control in their personal library, especially with multiple content formats.

Readers & Players
  • Ebook Reader: adjustable fonts, progress tracking, and clean layout.
  • Audiobook Player: included speed controls and sleep timer for better listening experiences.
  • Video Player: playback controls with “Up Next” recommendations for extended engagement.

Why: Each format has unique user needs; designing tailored players improves focus and usability.

Profile & Preferences
  • Centralized account features: purchase history, wishlist, reviews, notifications, and support.
  • Multi-language and notification preferences to personalize the experience.

Why: A global audience requires personalization to feel connected and in control of their app experience.

Impact

Impact & Learnings

Impact
  • Created a unified platform for Christian readers to access books, audiobooks, and videos in one seamless flow.
  • Simplified the purchase-to-consumption journey, reducing friction between browsing, buying, and engaging with content.
  • Improved accessibility by enabling offline downloads, making the app usable in regions with limited connectivity.
  • Supported multi-language content, opening the app to a wider global audience.
  • Designed a personalized user experience through preferences, wishlist, notifications, and purchase history.
Learnings
  • Designing for multi-format content (read, listen, watch) taught me how to adapt UI/UX patterns to different media types while keeping consistency.
  • The importance of offline-first design became clear when working with global audiences who may not always have stable internet.
  • Creating a balance between store-driven engagement (promotions, coupons) and library-driven retention was key to making the app sustainable.
  • Personally, this project helped me grow in structuring large-scale apps where users navigate between commerce, content, and personalization without confusion.
